Oh The Urbanity! have a great video of 25 Urban Transformation Projects in Montreal, Canada. They show how we can turn our Car Dominated Cities into enjoyable places for people.
There are some really nice before and after images that show how amazing the transformations are. Changing the very worst spaces into really lovely places that people just want to hang out in.

or cycle through…

It shows us how achievable it is, with the right leadership. When a city acknowledges it has no duty to allocate space for the free storage of cars on every street, this can happen. And look how much more pleasant and livable the city becomes! Yes there is push back. Some of it genuine concerns from locals but also a lot of manufactured outrage from the Fossil Fuels Industry Dark money too.

There is also a mention of the Ruelles Vertes (Green Alleys) project. An initiative that started as a residential movement in Montreal in the 1960’s and is now backed by the city government. Its objective is to add to city’s greenspaces whilst simultaneously revitalizing communities. Gilles Beaudry visited the 443 green alleys in Montreal and has made a record here: https://mesquartiers.wordpress.com/2020/08/15/top-20-des-plus-belles-ruelles-vertes-a-montreal/
