This project is so much more than a bunch of really nice renders of a potential Wonderful Green Future, it’s a toolkit for those looking to create Utopias.

Utopias make change attractive

“Utopias serve you – used correctly – both as distant guiding stars, but also as a direct orientation at the individual stages of your project. The utopian toolbox provides you with a number of methods to develop your own utopias as well as utopias for groups and organizations. You’ll also come with tools that help you see a world full of potentials and bring your utopia into reality.”

The book, Pictures of the future 2045, is a narrative illustration of a climate-neutral Germany, in which 20-30 places of social life in Germany – cities, regions, villages and street scenes – are depicted in their greatest future potential. The authors invite us to journey back in time into the future. Not into the dark future of an uninhabitable planet with floods, resource wars and dead ground, but into a world as it can be when we care about it.

“Daily news from war to climate catastrophe make the Future seems like a place without hope. What we need is another view of the morning – one that inspires and encourages. This richly illustrated book shows with elaborately simulated panoramas what 16 cities in Germany, Switzerland and Austria could look like in the future: green meeting places where energy production, transport and nutrition form a circular economy.”

The project is also an invitation to other artists who have created utopian images or videos and would like to make them available on the Real Utopias Information Center, for free use for non-commercial purposes.

Here are some of my favorite images. It’s nice to see a good mix of images from industrial parks, transit and agriculture. OWGF will need to happen everywhere humans have impact, not just in our streets.
